My question is about dairy. I'm experimenting with cutting back a bit. So, instead of decaf coffee w/cream, I've switched to herbal tea, and today I put almond milk on my cereal instead of regular milk. But I plan to keep eating yogurt and cheese. I'm curious to see if my constantly stuffed-up sinuses improve. What's your take on dairy?

By the way, I've added you as a friend with the hope that seeing what you eat will help keep me on track. Thanks for the inspiration!

Congrats on losing two pounds! Thank you for the compliment; I'm trying to eat better after starting off the summer with a family reunion that included way too much alcohol and junk food and ending the season with too much chocolate cake and ice cream. Keeping an online food diary is definitely helpful.

I just finished Barbara Kingsolver's inspiring story of how her family chose to spend a year eating only food that they or their neighbors could produce. She makes a very powerful argument for eating in season, eating locally. Her book definitely has me thinking more about how food choices I make for myself and my family not only affect our bodies but also our planet. So, I will try to make some changes in how I shop. I plan to go our local farmers market Sunday and put together our Sunday dinner from whatever I find.

This online food diary and forum are helping me choose yummy whole foods. Lots of fruits and veggies DO crowd out the bad choices. The bag of tortilla chips sit on the counter -- maybe I'll throw them out! -- and I haven't had any ice cream in three days. Our three family birthdays in August are over and there's no more chocolate cake in the house. I feel better already!

I'm not counting calories (although it would be nice if the calorie counter actually did it for me!) or skipping meals. My plan is to try to eat as healthfully as possible, with emphasis on fruits and veggies and other whole foods. If I feel hungry, I will have a small snack like a banana or some almonds. Also, I will try to exercise every day, even if it's just a 20-minute walk. I'll get back to the gym as soon as my kids go back to school. I miss step class and zumba!

We're the same age, and I just joined today as well. I used to eat cheerios, but a nutritionist turned me on to Go Lean. It has a lot more protein, so I don't get big dips in my blood sugar after eating it.

Just a wild guess. You look great whatever weight you are, abcdude! Just joined after seeing john berman's piece on good morning america about the "humiliation diet" -- although I'm looking for support, not humiliation. I've put on 10 pounds since the beginning of the year, and I'm not sure why. I just turned 49 and all of a sudden I'm getting chubby. Hope this site helps me!
