Just saw the guy who has been making my life miserable for the past 2 and a half months with his girlfriend at breakfast this morning, and I did not binge! Maybe because the sight of them together made me want to throw up more than stuff myself but hey, now I feel like if I can see them and not rush for the cookies, I must be getting invincible - or at least, a lot better :) Hope everyone is doing ok. Over and out for the day x 4 months ago
Sounds good will have to try those, I have been replacing chocolate bars with small Maryland cookies as I can eat 5 of them before getting to the calorie count of a normal kitkat so they feel a lot more filling, but I am a sucker for nougat. Made it through day 1 of the weekend safe.. fingers crossed for Sunday! Hope you're doing well lovely x 4 months ago
Hey sweetie, am so sorry to hear about what happened to your boyfriend. I think I may be going through a bit of a breakdown at uni (probably not quite as major as work but feels big you know?) at the moment and professional "burn-outs" are becoming a major discussion topic, I think because people under a lot of strain from their work in corporations used to think it was part of the big-company job but now we are realising all this pressure isn't good for a person and the quality of professional life needs to improve! NightShiftNurse is of course right about not cutting out carbs but I take it this is the first step of your new diet and that the carb-elimination is to jumpstart the weight loss. If you are feeling too light-headed though, maybe some dry crackers in the morning or something equally unattractive just to keep you going without tempting you too much? I am sending you positive brainwaves from Oxford, it seems stupid but just try to remind yourself that life is beautiful and that there are a lot of exciting things in store for you and your boyfriend yet :) Keep strong xx 4 months ago
@strawberrryblond7 Haha well I just polished them off with a sandwich and some more chocolate and if there was one close to me I think I could murder a kebab right now so I reckon I could give you a run for your money! ;) I soo understand your all-or-nothing problem, I either feel smug and proud about doing sport and restricting myself or I need total unrestrained liberty... although some days I manage to enjoy just one little treat after a workout and it's a lovely feeling, so there is hope for us both! Chicken, eggs and yogurt sounds yum. Can't wait to hear how you are doing. Right back to my revision now... good luck! x 4 months ago
Not only would I gladly follow your progress and read your posts on TWYE on a daily basis, but this post right here has literally made my day, as I have just had a massive binge and my big ball I have been working towards for 5 weeks is tomorrow evening :( The point of this site is for us to cheer each other on and help each other out, so your daily updates will only be beneficial and people who don't want to read it don't have to! Just work on that self-esteem my lovely, you need to stop bringing yourself down :) Best of luck with your new diet... today is the first day of the rest of your life :) 4 months ago
@cadburyaddict11, sorry to bring you back to this old post but I couldn't ask you other wise, I know you work out a lot and was wondering which gym you go to? Whether it's like a chain or something? Am trying out a couple different ones in my town before signing up. Any advice would be great! :) xxx 4 months ago
@queensammydala thanks very much! I get very paranoid and then over-estimate wildly :) 4 months ago
Hey I'm at uni too and it is such a pain, even in my college canteen the fruit and veg is much more expensive than taking a side order of chips or an unhealthy dessert! It's insane. Definitely go for frozen veg over fresh, there is a lot of very good quality frozen produce so just try a couple brands out and see what you prefer, it is worth it for the price difference. As others have said, eating seasonal produce is also cheaper, even if it can get a bit repetitive. Best of luck with your studies and your health hunt! 4 months ago
@NightShiftNurse Love the nail polish trick idea! Am going to get some on my way to town this afternoon. Best of luck x 4 months ago
Guys,
I bought a white choc muffin from an obscure brand today... oops. I had expected the nutritional value to be approx what it actually was (391 kcal for 100g) but then the packet didn't say how much the muffin weighed! It looked fairly sizable though, a little smaller than a starbucks muffin - does anyone know how much they weigh? In any case am off to the gym this afternoon! Good luck to everyone, hope there aren't too many hidden calories lurking in your vicinity... 4 months ago
Hey there! Was going to suggest you get outside, make plans, keep yourself busy & thinking about other things but I see you were the one who advised me to do that in the first place ;) But it's so true, when you are having fun with friends or have projects to look forward to, food takes up a little less space in your mind.
In more practical terms I have bought myself tons and tons of gum and diet coke, probably not the healthiest thing but it does ward off binges.
I have tried all sorts of mental tactics to stop me from bingeing: picturing overweight people, picturing skinny models, reminding myself of the dress I want to look good in, making a list of all the things to look forward to in the next few weeks... all of these things work but are not 100% fool-proof when the urge to stuff yourself gets to you.
I find the most effective of all these motivational methods has been to remind myself of all I have said "No" to in my day: for instance, if I make the effort to have a light lunch by buying sushi or a salad instead of a panini, and then someone offers me a muffin later in the day, I remind myself that I made the conscious decision and effort to have a smaller lunch, so I shouldn't waste that effort by eating the junk food. Then by the end of the day I have accumulated so many instances of saying "No" and making the effort, that it gets increasingly more of a waste to go on a binge. This might work for you? Also, if you can, go to a gym. The endorphines will give you such a kick, you will feel healthy, sexy, happy, sleep better, and again, after having made all those efforts you won't want to throw them away by bingeing! Hope this helps. x 4 months ago
Hey there,
You can work out your Base Metabolic Rate on internet (just Google it and click on a link). Your BMR indicates the amount of calories you would need to keep your weight stable if you stayed in bed all day long (i.e. no particular effort, not even reading a magazine!) My BMR is 1750, so to make sure I don't put on weight, 1800 is my maximum (assuming I get out of bed at least a minimum amount every day!), and if you want to lose a pound a week you need to cut down by 500 calories a day (1300 for me). You can do that for instance by eating 250 less and burning 250 by exercise. Hope this helps! Best of luck x 4 months ago
Thanks for all the encouragement guys! Sorry to let you down so soon... I have my first exam tomorrow so managed to empty the vending machine on my way out of the library tonight - it's like I wanted to purposely sabotage all my efforts to get back on track and all your kind words of advice - but I will consider these 2 days a sort of "naughty weekend" and put them behind me.
@xxHunyJxx and keporah, I have joined my college rowing team which will get me out and about 3 mornings a week and should be quite social! @fatbitch definitely with you on the projection thing! @NightShiftNurse, am loading up on the soups and salads as suggested :) Best of luck to you all x 4 months ago
Hey guys! When I started using TWYE in Feb, I restricted myself to 1400 calories a day, and felt terribly guilty whenever I went over that limit. Which happened a lot, with evenings out and improvised pub lunches; feeling guilty about going over 1400 just made me more prone to binges. So one month ago, when I got home from uni, my mum just helped me make sure there was literally nothing but fruit, veg, fish/chicken and rice in the house and instead of restricting myself, I aimed for 1400 or lower to lose weight, but on days where I reached 1800 I didn't panic because I knew I wasn't gaining any either (my BMR is 1740). So I hadn't binged in 4 weeks, had eaten nothing but healthy food, was going to the gym 3-4 times a week. Now I'm back at uni, panicking about exams, and all of a sudden I went on a MASSIVE binge this afternoon, while my college Ball is 10 days away and I no longer have access to a gym. Guys, I need advice and encouragement for the next 10 days to make sure today is my only slip-up and my month's efforts are not completely wasted. Help!!! 4 months ago
Aw babes don't let a couple extra kilos get you down! My pep talk will be nowhere near as good as yours are but... just don't obsess about this, you had a fantastic trip in South Africa, went on a chocolate overload during Easter like everyone else on the planet, and now you are back on track to feeling great for the Summer! I've just come back from 10 days in Egypt, where they literally deep-fry EVERYTHING (I mean breakfast, lunch, dinner, meat, vegetables, dessert, they will chuck it all into the frying vat) and that was a bit of a bummer but you can't stop living your life just to keep on track! So think of the wonderful time you had, think of the awesome summer to come in your kick-ass, super-toned body, and make the most of your birthday my lovely. xxx 4 months ago
Hey there Tabby, really brave of you to face up to the problem and great idea to track your progress through a blog! If I can share my experience with bingeing, careful not to go cold turkey when you cut out sugars. You need to wean yourself off them gradually, and having a little sugar/chocolate every day or every couple of days will avoid you feeling deprived and needing to binge. It is a cycle of over-restraint and then over-indulgence that characterizes binge eating, so make sure you treat yourself and take it easy :) Good luck!! 5 months ago
@clarabelle thanks, that is reassuring! :) Hope things are going well for you. x 5 months ago
So after a TERRIBLE weekend of my very own "No Carb Left Behind" campaign, I started over for the umpteenth time last Monday. This is the first time since joining twye that I have managed a 7-day streak of healthy eating + sport (including today, fingers crossed!)To maintain my weight, I need 1740 calories a day. Every day of the week I have had a lot less than that (except for 1 day, where I had exactly that). But here's the glitch: after losing the 5 pounds I put on in the weekend, I have re-gained 2 pounds. How is that possible? Is it because I have been doing a lot more sport than usual? Please help me out!!! Good luck xxx 5 months ago
Hey guys, just to let the twye managers know: the notification system is not working (at least for me it isn't!) My inbox is getting clogged up with messages telling me people have responded to my post when in fact they have just started a new forum topic. 5 months ago
Ha, have been trying to figure it out and it would seem this is our only means of communication on twye! Do people on here use facebook? x 5 months ago
